From time to time I will email a newsletter to keep you informed, perhaps create some introspection and begin developing our Pilgrimage family. If you have information or some introspective thoughts you want to share, please write me.

Genesis 12: 1 The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you...." 4 So Abram left, as the LORD had told him…. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran.
A thought learned from “The Art of Pilgrimage” by Phil Cousineau.
A pilgrimage is more than a trip or a journey. A pilgrimage has a purpose. It is a spiritual exercise, an act of devotion to find something: healing, penance, growth, peace, comfort, self-understanding, a deeper relationship with the eternal, etc. So by definition a pilgrimage is life-changing. It requires imagination. Often times places visited have been altered or built upon by others who have venerated a site (added their interpretation to the site), possibly obscuring what we wanted to see. But there is something to see from both: the original and the venerated. So imagination is a key word. You block out the external (sites, people, noise) and listen to what “being in this place” means to you. Let God speak to you in this place.
Prayer:
Gracious Lord, we pray that the mantel of your Holy Spirit will surround us and protect us. Guide our preparation, protect us in travel, open our minds, help us to imagine and lead us to know you intimately through our pilgrimage together; in your Son’s name. Amen.
A Critical Item: Check your passport today to see that it is current and will be current through February 19, 2009. If it needs to be renewed, do it today. The Israelis intensely scrutinize any passport less than six months old at the time of arrival.
